The Sant’Egidio community is very close to the world of hardship, 

an endless range of situations of suffering

 

The HOPE WORK PROJECT wants to overturn the all-too-celebrated concept in our city of the "ART OF GETTING BY", which is the same as the  "ART OF RESIGNATION".

 

Too often employers, in our city and beyond, exploit the state of need, the despair, that grips tens of thousands of people.

 

So undeclared work, the barbarity of undeclared work, has become a system and the only chance of survival.

 

Besides being unlawful, the lack of a work culture is a brake on the harmonious and peaceful development of society.

 

HOPE WORK means HOPING IN WORK.

 

WORK as the supporting and driving structure of society’s balanced progress.

 

Work is not a simple exchange of services, often managed arbitrarily, outside the rules!

 

Sadly, even today we still find a wide "grey" area that, behind its own domestic walls, tolerates and justifies what it publicly condemns.

 

We note with great sadness a widespread racism, denied with craft: THE CRAFT OF PRETENDERS.

 

The peace that each of us desires and professes is built by respecting others’ needs and expectations.
 

WELL-BEING IS THE RESULT OF EVERYONE’S WORK and everyone "must be able to lay their own stone."

 

There is a resource, an energy far more powerful than the force of despair. It is the desire to rise again, to find one’s own path on which to build, with dignity, one’s home, at the heart of the common home.

 

Work relationships, based only on an economic agreement, last only as long as it takes to find a better deal. Steps that leave no traces.

 

The Hope Work project starts from the last, from those who have  a very strong  desire to live again.

 

From men and women placed on the margins, excluded from social life, from young immigrants distressed by the expiry of their residence permit, from our young people without a plan,  without a goal.

 

Those who suffer carry within them an enormous charge, a light that wants to burst forth.

 

Our goal is to remove the straitjacket of resignation, to surprise bruised wings by offering a  new flight.

 

It is not a utopia, it is not demagoguery, it is not an illusion… it is a reality!
